A long time ago, in a galaxy not so far away (specifically in a British newspaper office in London in 1979) someone made a pun that would eventually unite millions of people across the planet once a year in shared celebration of one of the greatest stories ever told. That person was a copywriter working for Margaret Thatcher's party on the day she was elected the United Kingdom's first female Prime Minister. The ad they placed in the London Evening News read simply: "May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations." It was a clever one-liner playing on the most famous phrase in science fiction, "May the Force be with you", and nobody at the time could have imagined that a single newspaper pun would become the foundation of a global holiday observed by hundreds of millions of people forty-six years later.

But that is exactly what happened, because Star Wars is not just a film franchise. It is a shared mythology, a cultural inheritance passed from generation to generation, a set of stories whose characters and themes and language have become so deeply woven into the fabric of modern life that even people who have never watched a single frame of the films know what a Jedi is, know what the Force is, and know exactly what someone means when they say "May the Fourth be with you."

The holiday itself has no single founder and no official start date. It grew the way the best cultural phenomena grew: organically, from the ground up, through the collective enthusiasm of people who loved something and wanted a day to celebrate it together. Facebook groups dedicated to what fans called Luke Skywalker Day began appearing in 2008, using the May the 4th phrase as their rallying point. In 2011 the first organized Star Wars Day celebration took place at the Toronto Underground Cinema in Ontario, Canada, organized by Sean Ward and Alice Quinn, with costume contests, trivia competitions, and screenings of the original trilogy that drew fans together in physical space for the first time under the May the 4th banner. The internet amplified what Toronto started, and by the early 2010s, the hashtag was trending annually with a consistency that no marketing team could manufacture because no marketing team had invented it.

When Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012 (ugh, no comment) and officially embraced May the 4th as a promotional moment beginning in 2013, the holiday reached a scale that individual fans had started but could never have sustained alone; special merchandise, Disney park events, exclusive content releases, and the kind of global visibility that only a company with Disney's reach can produce. In 2019 the California Legislature made it formally official, voting to designate May 4th as Star Wars Day in recognition of the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland. What began as one clever line in a British newspaper had become a legislatively recognized holiday in the most populous state in America.

The reason this holiday resonates so deeply, year after year across so many different kinds of people, is not really about the pun. It is about what the pun points to. Star Wars endures because its themes are universal: the struggle between light and dark, the importance of chosen family, the idea that ordinary people can do extraordinary things when they commit to something larger than themselves. The Force, as a concept, has meaning beyond the screen. It is the invisible thing that connects people to each other and to the things they care about. And on May the 4th, people across the planet pause for a moment to celebrate that connection.

At Coverland, we take May the 4th seriously, not just as a marketing moment, but as a genuine celebration of the same values that make Star Wars worth celebrating at all. The Force, in our world, is the invisible thing that connects a driver to their vehicle. It is the care that goes into maintaining something you love. It is the deliberate choice to protect what matters rather than wait until damage makes protection impossible. It is, if you will permit us the analogy, the difference between a Jedi who maintains their lightsaber and a stormtrooper who never hits what they aim for.

This May the 4th, Coverland is celebrating by bringing you our full lineup of premium, SGS-certified, custom-fit vehicle protection. Whether your vehicle is your daily SUV “command ship” navigating the urban sprawl like an Imperial-class Star Destroyer moving through the galaxy, a Ford F-150 Raptor navigating the weekend’s offroad trails like the Millennium Falcon navigating an asteroid field after the destruction of Alderaan, or a Chevrolet Corvette cruising down the narrow lanes of PCH 1 like Luke's X-Wing maneuvering through the trenches of the Death Star, top vehicle performance relies on maximum protection, and this is precisely what Coverland offers.

Let’s review the superior premium quality and custom fit protection that Coverland is known for in terms that Star Wars fans will best understand.

Star Destroyers and Executor-Class Star Dreadnoughts Had Pristine Interiors, You Can Too With Coverland Custom SUV Floor Mats

Coverland Floor Mats are waterproof and scratch-proof

Nobody can forget the iconic opening scene in ‘Star Wars: A New Hope’ when an Imperial Star Destroyer passes overhead, instantly creating an atmosphere of awe and captivation. A luxury-grade SUV can have a similar impact on people who behold it dominating the highways, and if you drive a full-size SUV, then in “Star Wars vernacular”, you own the roads in an Executer-Class Dreadnought . However, if you step inside and the carpeting is trashed, that feeling of veneration fades. Only custom-fit SUV floor mats that are 100% waterproof will protect your floors to the standard of what a Grand Moff would demand.

Executor-Class Star Dreadnoughts were Darth Vader's personal flagships seen in ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ and ‘Return of the Jedi’. Let’s stop and consider what standards the interior had to meet, and why.

Darth Vader had a compromised immune system. After Obi-Wan defeated him on Mustafar shortly after Anakin Skywalker turned to the dark side and became the Sith known as Darth Vader, his legs were severed on the edge of a lava flow where he caught fire and nearly burned to death with his lungs rendered useless. Emperor Palpatine aka Darth Sidious purposely fit Vader with outdated robotic limbs and an antiquated respiratory system that limited his power to try to ensure that Vader would never become more powerful than his master. Vader’s respiratory system allowed him to breathe in air, scrub it to remove impurities, and keep him stable within his bulky armor. However, if the air quality was poor, it would cause contaminants to build up in his breathing system and require Vader to retreat more frequently to his Life Support Pod, which was the only place where he could remove his helmet.

In order to ensure you have a healthy interior in your SUV, you need to keep the floors pristine. Beverage spills can allow moisture to penetrate the layer beneath the fibers and create a mold colony. SUV floor mats by Coverland use 3D laser measurement technology to create edge-to-edge coverage ensuring no spills will touch your vehicle. The deep wall design keeps the largest spills contained, and the deep channels keep the spills off of your feet.

The materials that your SUV floor mats are made from also determines the air quality in your vehicle; many car floor mats, even high-end mats, are made from the following:

  • PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride): The most common concern. PVC on its own is rigid and brittle, so manufacturers add chemical plasticizers to make it flexible. The most widely used plasticizers are phthalates (a family of chemicals including DEHP, DBP, and DINP) which are classified as endocrine disruptors, meaning they interfere with hormone function. Phthalates do not stay permanently bonded in the material. They migrate to the surface and off-gas into enclosed cabin air, particularly when the car heats up in the sun.
  • Heavy Metal Stabilizers: PVC also requires heat stabilizers during manufacturing to prevent it from degrading. Common stabilizers include lead, cadmium, and barium compounds. These are toxic at virtually any exposure level, particularly for children.
  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs): Many synthetic floor mat materials off-gas VOCs including benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene. This is a group sometimes called BTEX compounds. These are associated with respiratory irritation, headaches, and long-term health risks including carcinogenicity at sustained exposure levels. The "new car smell" that many people associate with a fresh vehicle interior is largely VOC off-gassing.
  • Brominated Flame Retardants: Some floor mat materials include brominated flame retardants, which are persistent organic pollutants that accumulate in body tissue over time and have been linked to thyroid disruption and neurological effects.
  • Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs): Found in some rubber-based mats, PAHs are a class of compounds associated with carcinogenic risk. They can be present in recycled rubber materials used in lower-quality products.

Why enclosed vehicles make this worse: All of these concerns are amplified in a closed car cabin because there is no ventilation to dilute the concentration of off-gassed compounds. On a hot day a parked car with the windows up can reach temperatures well above 140 degrees Fahrenheit, which dramatically accelerates the off-gassing rate of every heat-sensitive compound listed above. Children in rear seats are closest to the floor surface where concentrations are highest.

What to look for in SUV floor mats: Products carrying SGS certification or Intertek certification have been independently laboratory tested and confirmed free of these compounds. The material that eliminates all of these concerns by design is TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer), which achieves its flexibility through its molecular structure rather than through added plasticizers, and does not require heavy metal stabilizers or brominated flame retardants in its production.

All Coverland car floor mats are made from high-quality TPE, and are SGS-certified proving the materials are safe for your family, and any Sith that may want to ride shotgun.

Coverland’s car floor mats and SUV floor mats have a full 10-year warranty and are certified to prevent toxins from devastating your vehicle's air quality. Darth Vader would improve (and their design and color matches his armor).

What About Car Floor Mats That Are Easy to Clean When Dog’s Have “Accidents”, or a Wookie Makes Stool on Your Floor?

Grizzly beast who had a potty accident on the floor mat!
Oh no! I What happened here Chewie???

Let’s transition from those massive Imperial ships to the galaxy-famous Millennium Falcon. This was the ship that made the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs, and the ship that Chewbacca went to the bathroom in.

Wookiees are biological mammals native to the forested planet Kashyyyk, so they would presumably have the same basic biological needs as other mammalian species in the Star Wars universe. Beyond that, the films, animated series, and official novels are completely silent on the subject.

The most common theory is that Wookiees, like many large mammals, simply find a private spot in the forest, which would make sense given that Kashyyyk is an enormous arboreal world where they live high in the trees. The Millennium Falcon presumably has a refresher unit (the Star Wars term for a bathroom) somewhere aboard, though it is never shown on screen.

Because non-human biological mammals act on nature, one could theorize that rather than use the refresher like a human, Chewie would have likely squatted on the floor of the Falcom, leaving a poo, and infuriating Han. That said, the Millennium Falcon’s floors would have needed to be outfitted with mats that are easy to clean, that don’t absorb odors or matter, and that don’t leave any germs behind.

Tusken Raiders are raving about our easy to clean floor mats! Simply rinse with a hose.

Coverland car floor mats are ideal for people who have dogs that often ride in their vehicle. The non-porous TPE doesn’t absorb any biohazard spills, and the material makes it impossible for germs and odors to settle into the mat. If your little Wookie makes a poo on your floor, simply remove the mat, hose it off in 30 seconds, and allow it to air-dry in less than three minutes. You can also use an anti-bacterial wipe for good measures. While other mats require special cleaning chemicals and take an hour to clean, Coverland car floor mats take a fraction of the time. Han would love these mats because he was always in a hurry to go pay off Jabba the Hutt but time was never on his side, and you will love them for giving you more time with family that would otherwise be spent cleaning a terrible mess.

Coverland Has the Premium, Custom-Fit Car Seat Covers That Luke Would Have Bought for His X-Wing

Coverland does not sell budget car seat covers; our car seat covers are made from automotive premium-grade leatherette, and each offers a custom fit using 3D laser mapping measurement technology. This is the luxury quality that makes driving more comfortable and enables better road concentration, and is therefore precisely what Luke would want in his X-Wing.

Coverland offers the largest selection of custom car seat covers for all makes, models and years. This is valuable because so many seats are widely different from one another, even across the same brand lines. X-Wings have a very specific seat design in a unique cockpit that is actually fairly well documented across the films, technical manuals, and expanded universe.

The single pilot sat in an armored cockpit in the center of the fuselage protected by a transparisteel canopy. The canopy allowed for a wider view compared to that provided by a TIE fighter's.

The X-wing featured a Guidenhauser ejector seat that used an explosive charge to eject the pilot, as well as the droid from the X-wing in an emergency.

As for the seat itself, it was a fairly narrow, form-fitting bucket seat typical of military fighter aircraft deliberately designed to evoke real-world jet fighter cockpits. George Lucas and the ILM design team drew heavily from World War II and Cold War era fighter aircraft aesthetics, so the cockpit and seating feel visually similar to something like a Spitfire or early jet fighter: tight, functional, and stripped of anything non-essential.

The cockpit was extremely cramped by any standard. Pilots wore full flight suits and helmets, were strapped tightly into the ejection seat, and had instrumentation panels surrounding them on multiple sides. There was no room to stretch, no padding beyond the basic seat structure, and no creature comforts of any kind. Extended missions in an X-Wing would have been genuinely physically demanding, which is actually consistent with real fighter pilot experience, where fatigue management is a serious operational concern.

Now let’s review some facts about the X-Wing seat and its environment to see how relevant a premium-grade Coverland car seat cover would have been for improving aviation comfort with vast improvements:

  • UV-Proof Car Seat Covers / Large X-Wing Canopy: Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause car seats to fade or crack. Vehicles like the Subaru Forester with expansive glass areas or Range Rovers with extensive glass areas providing panoramic views are especially prone to receiving maximum UV rays, making the need for UV-proof car seat covers to be critical. Coverland’s covers are premium, meaning they are not coated with a UV-resistant coating that wears off. Instead, UV inhibitors are added to the leatherette material during the manufacturing process, ensuring the seats will remain in pristine condition for a decade. In fact, these seat covers have a full 10-year warranty ensuring they will look like new for a minimum of 10 years.
  • Fire-Proof Car Seat Covers: Explosive charges that eject pilots create flames, and in some cases when maintenance is not routinely performed, the cockpits can self-eject in hangars, resulting in cockpit fire damage. Rather than having to replace just the cockpit canopy, Rebel mechanics would have to replace the seat and the mechanism underneath it as well, which was time consuming. The Rebel Alliance would have invested in Coverland car seat covers for all of their aircraft, as our seat covers are fire-proof. In fact, you can view a flamethrower attacking a Coverland car seat cover demonstrating its superior quality and fire retardant nature.
  • Car Seat Covers With Memory Foam and Lumbar Support: X-Wings have a narrow seat and a cramped cockpit. As mentioned, full flight suits, large helmets, and surrounding instrument panels on multiple sides framed a seat that didn’t allow the pilot any room to stretch out, and there was no padding beyond the seat’s basic structure. Studies such as those published in Nonlinear Engineering prove that car seat covers that provide enhanced seating comfort also improve safety, and this would be a critical feature for any pilot to have in his X-Wing, as not all of them were Force-sensitive like Luke. Coverland car seat covers are premium because they have breathable memory foam and lumbar support to improve driver comfort and safety.
Coverland Car Seat Covers stand up to frigid Hoth-like climates
Hoth climate is NO MATCH for our Coverland Car Seat Covers, stay cozy, breathable, waterproof and crank up your seat warmer! (Yes it's compatible with our covers)

You will never find yourself speeding down the highway focusing on the goal of firing a missile into the Death Star’s thermal exhaust port; your main goal is likely to get your family home in a safe and timely manner. Coverland car seat covers are designed to give you the enhanced comfort to boost your level of alertness so that you can do just that (and Luke would have loved that extra comfort when he turned off his targeting computer).

Custom Outdoor Car Covers That Protect In Diverse Climates Like Tatooine, Hoth and on Dagobah

Be prepared for any climate.
No matter where your space journey takes you, be prepared with Coverland Car Cover rated for all-weather environments.

Coverland makes the best outdoor car cover in the industry for a number of reasons that range from a true-custom fit, being 100% waterproof, 99.96% UV-resistant (the highest rating in the industry), a scratch-proof inner layer, and being wind-proof. The evidence is in our lifetime full warranty. Think about it: if the cover fails to deliver on these claims, we would go out of business refunding our customers!

In the Star Wars universe, nobody made covers like this for Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing and Snowspeeder, and the Jedi paid the price.

His X-Wing sat exposed on the swamp planet Dagobah collecting moisture while he trained with Yoda, his Snowspeeder endured the brutal ice winds of Hoth without so much as a basic hem seal coupled by snowmelt damage, and his X-Wing baked under the twin suns of Tatooine with zero UV protection between its hull and the most punishing solar environment in the Outer Rim. Coverland was not available in that galaxy. It is available in this one, and here is what it would have done.

On Tatooine: In places like this where twin suns deliver approximately twice the UV load of a single-star system and daytime surface temperatures regularly exceed conditions that destroy unprotected synthetic materials within a single season, Coverland's 99.96% UV protection rating (the highest in the industry, independently certified by SGS) would have kept Luke's X-Wing completely safe from solar damage. Considering the UV-blocking chemistry is permanently integrated into the fiber structure rather than sprayed on and depleted by the radiation it intercepts, the lifetime warranty would have held strong. The cover would not have faded, cracked, or lost a single point of UV protection across the Tatooine ownership period, because the protection is what the fiber is made of, not something applied to its surface.

On Hoth: In environments where ice, snow, and the kind of sustained wind loading that sends unsecured covers into the next sector would have tested any lesser product, Coverland's industrial-strength tie-down straps, reinforced elastic hem, and hurricane-rated wind resistance would have held the cover firmly against the Snowspeeder's body at every point around the full perimeter. The 100% waterproof middle membrane would have kept every molecule of snowmelt and ice away from the speeder's surfaces, and the breathable construction would have prevented the condensation cycling that freeze-thaw conditions produce beneath a non-ventilated cover, the ice planet version of the damage mechanism that destroys vehicles from the inside out while the owner assumes the cover is handling everything above.

On Dagobah: This is the most aggressively humid environment in the saga, where moisture hangs in the air at near-saturation levels and organic growth covers every surface that is not actively defended against it. Coverland's waterproof membrane and breathable vapor management would have eliminated the moisture accumulation that visibly deteriorated Luke's X-Wing during his time in the swamp. The vapor escapes outward. The liquid stays out. The ship underneath stays dry.

Custom Car Covers That Express Your “Inner Sith” or “Inner Jedi”: Make Your Own Statement With A Symbolic Lightsaber Cover

All choices have LEAD here! Choose your side (Color Style)
All choices have LEAD here! Choose your side (Color Style) to match your car interior.

Now for an important decision: the color.

If you feel the pull towards the dark side (if you find a certain elegance in power, precision, and the aesthetic of controlled intensity) Coverland's black cover with the red stripe is your ally. In Star Wars lore, Sith lightsaber crystals are red because Sith warriors perform a ritual called “crystal bleeding”, channeling dark Force energy into a kyber crystal until it bends to their will, corrupting its natural resonance and turning it crimson. The red stripe on your cover is your own quiet acknowledgment of that energy.

If your alignment runs toward the light, Coverland's white and blue options reflect the crystals that Jedi carry. Blue kyber crystals, the most common among Jedi, represent focus, resolve, and combat readiness, carried by guardians like Luke, Anakin, and Obi-Wan. White crystals, most famously wielded by Ahsoka Tano, represent independence, purity, and a path walked outside the traditional Jedi and Sith structures; a crystal that has been healed from darkness and restored to its natural clarity.

Who Shot First, Han or Greedo? Pull the Trigger Today and Over Coverland Car Seat Covers, Outdoor Car Covers, and Car Floor Mats

In the original 1977 version of Star Wars: A New Hope, Han Solo shot and killed Greedo before the bounty hunter could fire. However, in the 1997 Special Edition, George Lucas altered the scene to make Greedo shoot first, which prompted a decade’s long controversy regarding Han’s character.

When it comes to protecting your vehicle, now is the time for you to shoot first by ordering our premium car seat covers, outdoor car cover, and floor mats. If you don’t shoot first, your character will not be in question, but your vehicle’s integrity will be!
