Tiger Tough Seat Covers VS Coverland Seat Covers: A Perspective On Why Our Customers Don’t Trust Tiger Tough, and the Proof to Back It Up

Published: 02/19/2026

For more than a decade, Coverland has stayed hyper focused on our customers and providing them with the best truck, SUV and car seat covers with a focus on safety, comfort, protection and style. For the first time since we opened our doors, we are now, momentarily, turning some attention to one particular competitor who has been making false claims about our car seat covers in their blog. Coincidently (or intentionally) malicious claims about our product safety and quality was bashed on Reddit and in other platforms that don’t require proof of purchase, all around the time Tiger Tough started running campaigns using negative language to describe Coverland and some of their other competitors.

So, this is our response: we are going to focus on you, the consumer. We are going to provide proof that these claims are false, but also share proof on why Tiger Tough is not at the top of the ladder when it comes to car seat cover safety.

Finally, we are not going to simply promote ourselves, but in addition we will share some other brands in the market that we respect, and that we recommend in the event you can’t find your ideal seat covers with Coverland.

During the period of January 31, 2023 – June 28, 2023, Tiger Tough designed, engineered and sewed car seat covers that violated the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Why 100+ Customers Don’t Trust Tiger Tough Seat Cover Quality and Their Attention to Safety

During the period of January 31, 2023 – June 28, 2023, Tiger Tough designed, engineered and sewed car seat covers that violated the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In the Tiger Tough car seat cover recall issued on July 26, 2023, The NHTSA ordered the recall, stating the following reason:

Due to a manufacturing error in this lot, the stitching used to secure the side flap and breakaway of this aftermarket upper vehicle seat cover to allow side airbag deployment was incorrect. The stitching was too strong and did not match the specifications, which had previously been tested to ensure that the seat cover would not interfere with side airbag operation. The defect does not affect the integrity of the other safety features of your vehicle.

The description of the risk that Tiger Tough unleashed into the consumer market is as follows:

NR Description of the Safety Risk : The side airbag may not deploy, posing a risk of serious injury or death. Description of the Cause : Contract manufacturer did not follow the specification and used incorrect thread/stitching to secure the side flap and breakaway.

If you take a look at the Safety Recall Report, you will see that Tiger Tough was also the party responsible for the sewing and stitching, as it clearly names “Sewn Products” DBA (stands for “Doing Business As”) Tiger Tough. On Tiger Tough’s website they claim to be “third-party lab tested”, but they don’t name the lad or certification body.

What’s clear is that if Tiger Tough was SGS-certified like Coverland, those faulty car seat covers that risked “serious injury or death” would have never made it into consumer circulation. Three years later and they still fail to have product certification with a globally trusted organization like Coverland’s certification with SGS. Many of our customers have vocalized this concern to us, and asked to see proof of our SGS certification, which we provide online and that we email to customers.

Look, if you aren’t cutting corners or trying to compensate, then why not get a reputable certification VS using vague language with smoke and mirrors via the guide of “we are lab-tested by a third party”. What party?

S labs test Coverland’s premium leatherette for abrasion resistance and tensile strength.

Proof Coverland Seat Covers Have the Highest Quality & Safest Option for Vehicles that Demand Rugged Daily Life Durability, Comfort, and Style

In the automotive aftermarket, trust is often built on empty promises, but Coverland anchors its reputation in verifiable data through comprehensive SGS certification. When a customer is searching for a reason to trust a brand, the presence of the SGS mark serves as an objective, third-party "seal of excellence" that distinguishes professional-grade engineering from cheap, unverified alternatives.

What is SGS Monitoring?

SGS is the world’s leading testing, inspection, and certification company, operating a network of over 2,600 offices and laboratories globally. For Coverland, being SGS-certified means our car seat covers have undergone rigorous laboratory trials to meet strict international and federal standards. This monitoring isn't a simple one-time "pass"; it involves a comprehensive evaluation of the product's DNA, ensuring that every batch of material leaving the factory maintains the same high-quality threshold as the original prototype. For a driver, this means the seat cover you buy today is identical in safety and quality to the one that passed the lab's most grueling tests. You can view Coverland’s SGS certification here, and purchase with full confidence.

The Pillars of SGS Safety and Quality

For the consumer, SGS certification provides three vital layers of protection that go beyond surface-level looks:

  • Material Integrity: SGS labs test Coverland’s premium leatherette for abrasion resistance and tensile strength. This ensures that the covers won't crack under extreme temperatures or peel after months of the "slide-in, slide-out" friction that occurs with daily driving.
  • Chemical Safety and Flammability: Safety extends beyond collisions. SGS vets our materials for FMVSS 302 compliance (the federal motor vehicle safety standard for flammability) and ensures the leatherette is free from harmful VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), ensuring the air inside your cabin remains safe for children and pets.
  • Consistent Manufacturing: SGS monitoring often includes factory audits, ensuring that the specialized "safe-stitch" technology required for side-airbag compatibility is applied consistently across every unit produced.

Why It Matters for Trust

When a competitor uses the vague term "third-party tested," (like Tiger Tough) they are often hiding a lack of accreditation or a failed test. In contrast, Coverland’s commitment to SGS oversight provides a global standard of accountability. For the driver who needs a definitive reason to trust their vehicle’s interior to a new brand, SGS certification is proof that Coverland prioritizes consumer safety and long-term durability over manufacturing shortcuts. It is the definitive difference between a product that simply looks good in a photo and one that is scientifically proven to perform when it matters most.

Need More Proof? Here Ya Go: Coverland’s Car Seat Covers Come With A Full 10-Year Warranty and a 100% Money-Back Guarantee

In an industry where the average warranty rarely extends beyond one or two years (Tiger Tough has a limited 2-year warranty), Coverland’s full 10-year warranty stands as a bold anomaly. For most companies, offering such a lengthy commitment, combined with a 100% money-back guarantee, would be a recipe for financial ruin. From a legal standpoint, a warranty is more than a marketing slogan; it is a binding contractual obligation. Under federal laws like the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a company that represents its products as "guaranteed" for a decade is legally tethered to that promise. If a manufacturer were to sell poorly made, low-tier seat covers while making these claims, the sheer volume of replacement claims and legal liabilities would force them out of business in a matter of months.

The fact that Coverland not only offers this "industry-highest" warranty but thrives while doing so is the ultimate testament to our product’s integrity. We can afford to stand behind our car seat covers for 120 months because our SGS-certified leatherette, high-quality and airbag-safe stitching, and integrated memory foam are engineered to outlast the vehicles they protect. While competitors might use anonymous "third-party" content creators on forums to create doubt, they cannot match the physical reality of a decade-long guarantee.

When you purchase from Coverland, you aren't just getting car seat covers; you are getting the peace of mind that comes from a company that has "nothing to hide." We know that if our covers cracked, peeled, or failed to protect your interior, our 10-year obligation would be our downfall. Instead, it is our greatest strength. Choosing Coverland means choosing a product that is legally and physically built to go the distance. Experience the security of the best warranty in the business, and Shop Coverland today.

Coverland offers the best of both worlds: our high-quality leatherette looks and feels like real leather hide, and even has a grain to it that replicates real leather.

Does Coverland Really Offer the Best Car Seat Covers in the Industry?

There are many other car seat cover companies out there that offer high-quality car seat covers, and many of them sell covers made from materials not offered by Coverland. That said, we feel we offer the best car seat covers for the largest concentration of people out there, but we certainly aren’t for everyone.

We are 100% confident that if you prioritize the following features of car seat covers, Coverland will provide the best solution:

  • True Custom Fit: Coverland uses 3d laser mapping to measure more than 1,000 car seats, truck seats and SUV seats to ensure you get a true custom fit that functions as a second skin. The cover will never slide, bunch or bulge.
  • A Luxury Look and Feel: Leather is the gold standard when it comes to luxury. However, the maintenance of caring for leather is anything but. Coverland offers the best of both worlds: our high-quality leatherette looks and feels like real leather hide, and even has a grain to it that replicates real leather. But because our vegan leather is non-porous, there is no need to oil or condition it. There is also no need to fuss over spills and scramble to clean the seat cover right away, as our seat covers are stain-proof and beads away any type of liquid, making it easy to clean with the simple wife down of a wet rag. Also, unlike real leather or cloth, our seat covers do not absorb odor.
  • Premium Comfort: Coverland seat covers are made with breathable leatherette ensuring the covers won’t heat up when your car is parked in the hot sun or Arizona or Nevada, or get stiff and brittle during minus zero temperatures in Alaska or Upstate New York. Our car seat covers also come with a high-quality, breathable memory foam filament that’s guaranteed to last 10 years or more, and every seat cover offers lumbar support and enhanced spinal and hip comfort.
  • Absolute Safety: Our SGS-certification guarantees that in the event of an accident our seat covers will give your side airbags full function, as the stitching breaks away as the bags deploy, protecting your family with rigorous testing by a globally trusted entity, and our full 10 year warranty further backs up our faith in the quality and safety of our seat covers.
  • UV-Resistance - When leather and vinyl seats are exposed to direct sunlight over a lengthy duration, fading and warping can occur. Coverland adds a UV-resistant compound to the materials in the manufacturing process (we don’t use a spray that rubs off) to ensure they remain UV resistant for up to 10 years or longer. Now only do these covers protect your original upholstery from 100% of UV rays, but the covers themselves will remain looking new for the next decade to come.
  • Custom Seat Covers For Rarer and Obscure Vehicles - Coverland is proud to provide more than 1,000 custom car, truck, SUV and crossover seat covers for vehicles as old as 1921, and for any trim ever made. Whether you need seat covers for a 1953 Corvette, for a 1975 Ford F-150, a 1929 Chevrolet Coupe or a 1984 Land Rover Ninety, we have you covered.

When Coverland Seat Covers May Not Be Your Best Choice (And Who We Recommend)

At the moment, Coverland only makes seat covers using high-quality leatherette because we feel it offers our customers the best quality and value. However, some people want real leather, or neoprene, or vinyl, and that’s okay. It just means that, at this time, we are not for you.

In addition, while we are one of the largest seat cover retailers for over 1,000 auto makes, models, trims and years, we don’t currently have seat covers for a wide range of vans.

Here are the most popular reasons why we sent callers over to various competitors, when Coverland was not able to offer them the product they were looking for, and who we recommended, and why:

  • Military Grade / Ballistic Seats: Coverland has ballistic properties in our seat covers guaranteed to protect them from scratches or punctures associated with the events of working in and out of your truck, being at construction sites, dog claws, kids, heavy gear bags, tools getting tossed on the seats, and daily entry and exit. But we are not military-grade.
    • Who We Recommend: Northwest Seat Covers
    • Why: They are MGA research-certified and tested by Life Cycle Test Lab in Troy, Michigan. These are true military-grade seat covers with a Proseam system for airbag deployment. They are known for being the most comfortable of military-grade seats and they are made for a much wider range of vehicles than their competitors.
  • Real Leather Seat Covers: While Coverland offers leatherette that looks and feels like real leather but doesn’t come with the downside of owning real leather car seats, some people still want real hide and feel that the maintenance associated with them is worth their time. We do not currently offer leather covers.
    • Who We Recommend: Leatherseats.com
    • Why: They offer various types of authentic leather replacement upholstery kits that come in a wide range of colors. They are known for high-end stitch work and premium automotive leather with certified tear-away stitching. They also give customers multiple ways to give their car interiors full makeovers.
  • Camouflage Seat Covers: Coverland specializes in seatcovers that replicate OEM colors and do not provide camouflage designs, at this time.
    • Who We Recommend: Kryptek
    • Why: They offer a wide range of realistic camo patterns, as well as unique designs that reflect individual style. The custom-fit version is designed to be airbag-safe with tear-away-stitching. We recommend calling their customer service team to request information on certification.
  • Neoprene Seat Covers: Since our leatherette outperforms neoprene in all tests, we do not, at this time, provide this material option. However we get it; people love it, especially those ingrained in beach culture.
    • Who We Recommend: Caltrend
    • Why: Their seats are advertised as custom fit, airbag compatible, and they come in a number of fun colors.
  • New Old Stock (NOS) Vehicle Upholstery: While Coverland makes true custom-fit seat covers for more than 1,000 vehicle makes, models and years (including cars from the 1920s) we do not make seat covers using new old stock fabrics. However, our covers will protect your original upholstery with a full-10 year warranty.
    • Who We Recommend: Original Auto Interiors
    • Why: They have been in business since 1979, and are the world’s largest inventory of NOS seat cloths, vinyls and headliners.
